Why we exist.

The U.S. brushless motor supply chain depends on a handful of overseas suppliers. We're building the domestic alternative.

The dependency

The dependency.

Every brushless motor — the kind inside every drone, robotic actuator, e-bike hub motor, and electric-vehicle auxiliary system — requires three things to manufacture: silicon-steel stator laminations, aluminum rotor shells, and the precision machinery that winds, glues, and assembles them.

In the United States today, almost none of these are made domestically. Vacuz dominates components and winding lines out of China; Marsilli, Bosch, and GROB-WERKE compete on automated winding and assembly out of Italy and Germany; European extruders supply the rotor stock. There is no domestic peer.

§ 02
Why it matters

Why it matters.

Brushless motors are not optional components. They sit inside every drone on the DoD Blue UAS list, every humanoid robotics platform shipping in 2026, and every domestic defense actuator program facing Buy American pressure.

Tariff exposure, ITAR conflict potential, and the routine supply-chain disruptions of the last five years have made the dependency visible. None of them have made it smaller.

Brushless motors are not optional components. The dependency is, today, unavoidable. The dependency is, tomorrow, our product roadmap.
Fig. 03 — Assembly

What a brushless motor takes to make.

Thirteen stages from silicon-steel coil to finished actuator. Today, every stage in highlight runs through a non-U.S. supplier. We onshore from the highlighted stages outward.

§ 03
The gap

Three gaps, no domestic alternative today.

01

Stator lamination stacks.

Currently single-sourced from China through importers. Custom-die commissions take 20+ weeks and start at $100,000. There is no U.S.-domestic catalog supplier.

02

Aluminum rotor shells.

U.S. motor builders today CNC outrunner shells from billet stock at significant cost. Chinese suppliers serve this market with cast and extruded blanks at a fraction of the price; the same productized approach has never been replicated stateside.

03

Manufacturing machinery.

Stator winding, epoxy coating, magnet-glue-and-insert, and rotor assembly machinery is dominated by Vacuz out of China, with Marsilli, Bosch, and GROB-WERKE contesting the automated-assembly tier from Europe. The U.S. has no equivalent domestic capacity.

Our thesis

Our thesis.

We are building two near-term catalog products — American Stator (silicon-steel lamination stacks) and Rotor Castings (aluminum outrunner shells) — sold as standard SKUs to U.S. motor builders.

In parallel we are building the machinery underneath. Together they make Gwaihir the domestic source for the two highest-tooling-cost components in a brushless motor, plus the equipment that produces them.

How to engage

If you build motion in America, we want to talk.
